Alcohol Content: 40% ABV (80 proof)

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: Sweet notes of honey, lemon, and buttercream, with hints of anise and pistachio.
  • Palate: Pleasantly honeyed with flavors of sweet corn, lemon, and buttercream, complemented by subtle anise and pistachio undertones.
  • Finish: Smooth and soft, leaving a lingering sweetness with a touch of oak.

How It’s Made Yamato Japanese Whisky is produced by acquiring excess barrels from a prominent distillery in Japan's Yamanashi prefecture. The whisky is aged between 3 to 8 years in Mizunara oak casks, a rare and esteemed Japanese oak known for imparting unique flavors. After aging, the whisky is proofed down with water sourced from the area around Mount Fuji and bottled without chill filtration, preserving its natural character.

Perfect Pairings

  • Food: Complements sushi, sashimi, grilled seafood, and lightly smoked dishes.
  • Cheese: Pairs well with mild, creamy cheeses such as Brie or Camembert.
  • Desserts: Enhances desserts like almond biscotti, lemon tart, or honey-drizzled pastries.

How to Enjoy

  • Neat: Savor at room temperature to appreciate its full range of flavors.
  • On the Rocks: Pour over a large ice cube to slightly mellow the flavors and enjoy a chilled experience.
  • Highball: Mix with soda water and a twist of lemon for a refreshing highball cocktail.

Yamato Japanese Whisky offers a distinctive tasting experience, though opinions vary regarding its quality. Some find it pleasantly honeyed with notes of sweet corn, lemon, and buttercream, while others feel it lacks the depth found in more established Japanese whiskies. The unique Mizunara oak aging imparts subtle complexities, making it an intriguing choice for those exploring Japanese whisky.
